STORIES ABOUT FOOD

Stories About Food is a living archive of meals, memories, and the quiet wisdom of age. In this ongoing photo and video series, I travel across all 50 states, cooking alongside people aged 65 and older—inviting them to prepare a meal while sharing the stories that shaped their relationship with food. We talk about ration cards and root cellars, hunger and harvests, first recipes and last gardens. Each conversation is a doorway into personal history, cultural shifts, and the evolving role of food across a lifetime.

From front porches in Appalachia to high-rise apartments in the Bronx, Stories About Food captures the intimate texture of aging through the universal language of a shared dish. When we reach 100 interviews, the collection will be released both in print and online—a national table set with memory, flavor, and the stories that feed us.

What do our meals reveal about who we’ve been, who we’ve become, and what we’re trying not to forget?
