LAND STEWARDSHIP
We believe land healing begins with people. Our Land Stewardship initiatives restore the forests, streams, and shorelines of the Appalachian and Great Lakes regions through community-rooted conservation. We partner with farmers, tribal nations, and rural communities to regenerate habitat, protect biodiversity, and strengthen ecological resilience.
-
Habitat by Hand
A community-powered restoration program focused on riparian and forest ecosystems in Central Appalachia. Through native plantings and streambank repair, the initiative supports recovery of freshwater mussels and upland species like the eastern hellbender and wood thrush, while centering farmers and tribal partners in hands-on stewardship.
-
Freshwater Musselshed Program
Woolbank’s Musselshed initiative brings freshwater mussel conservation to working lands. Mussels raised on our conservation farm’s hatchery are utilized for riparian restoration, and community partnerships. We’re building a living infrastructure to heal our streams from bank to bed.
-
Streambank to Shoreline
A regional restoration initiative reconnecting inland farms, tribal lands, and coastal communities across the Lake Erie Basin. Through streambank stabilization, riparian buffers, and coastal habitat restoration, the program advances ecological resilience from farmers along Great Lake tributary streams.
